What is an 'Attempted' job?

N
Written by Nathaniel

A task may be shown as 'Attempted' in the Shepper app rather than 'Completed'.

This is one of the few outcomes of a job, further details on job outcomes can be found here.

If your job has been marked as attempted, it's likely you were not able to fully complete or start the job for reasons out of your control. There are a few reasons why this may have happened:

  • The store you have visited is temporarily or permanently closed, and this information is not stated under the business's details on Google

  • The retailer had changed at the address, and this was also not stated on Google

  • You have encountered a bug in the app, preventing you from completing the job

  • The staff at the location asked you to leave, or did not allow the check to be carried out

If you find yourself facing one of these situations, stay calm and take a note of it. At the end of each job, there is the question "Is there anything preventing you from carrying out the check today?" - select 'Yes' here and detail the situation in the answer box. To get to the end of you job, you can select any answer in a question to progress forwards. You should also provide photos where you can in the job to support your explanation e.g. if you have visited a retailer that is temporarily closed, take photos in the job to show this is the case.

The review team will take a look at your job and determine whether it can be marked as attempted. If so, the job fee will be paid out to your wallet in the app.

Please note, jobs will not be attempted whereby the issue is within control of the Shepherd. For example, if you are unable to complete a Nicotine type job because you did not have your ID with you, the job would be failed rather than attempted.

Another example would be if you visited a store that is permanently closed, but this information was available online via the business's details on Google. This job would also be failed rather than attempted, as we always encourage Shepherds to verify opening times before visiting a retailer.
