Here are our top tips on how to interact with a member of staff during a Shepper check.

To help your future Shepper checks go as smoothly as possible, we've compiled a list of some handy tips and tricks. Find out more below!

Not all Shepper checks require you to interact with a member of staff, however with some checks such as mystery shopping or product audit checks, you may need to briefly interact with someone in order to get the job done!

Here's a list of tips and tricks to help your future interactions go as smoothly as possible. Don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it seems!

But first, a little refresher of what to do before you start your check!

📍 Always check the store opening times before accepting a check

📄 Printing a letter of authority (if needed) can help when met with a doubtful member of staff.

👓 Make sure you read the task description/ start the check in the app before entering the store to know exactly what’s expected and what you should say should you have to explain why you are there.

👔 Make sure to dress the part on an overt mission as you are representing the client. Avoid wearing anything too casual such as tracksuits, flip flops etc.

If a store visit involves interacting with a member of staff, it's good practise to read the job description in advance to familiarise yourself with the questions and who the client is. This way, introducing yourself will be much easier and hassle-free! An example of a great introduction is: “Hello, I’m here from Shepper, conducting market research on behalf of Camelot. I will just need to confirm a few things about your Lottery display today."

  • If you’ve already explained what you’re doing, and why you’re doing a check but are still being asked for extra information, you can show the app, your Shepper ID (found in the profile section), and include a photo in your profile too.

  • If a member of staff pushes back, refuses entry or refuses to let you complete the check, please leave and let us know straight away. We'll be able to follow up and review the situation.

  • Never visit a store if you have been previously asked to leave.
